When Will the Notch Close for Winter?

The Notch, officially known as Vermont Route 108, typically closes for the winter season due to the combination of its steep, winding nature and the harsh winter conditions that make it impossible to maintain. While exact closure dates can vary year by year depending on weather conditions, the Notch usually closes around late October to early November when the first significant snow arrives.

When Will Route 108 Reopen?

It generally reopens in mid to late May when the snow has melted and road maintenance can be done. However, the date is never precise because snow in the mountains in spring can be a bit unpredictable and maintenance can take varying amounts of time once before the road officially opens back up. Be sure to keep an eye on the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s website or their social media updates.

Getting to CCC When Smugglers Notch is Closed for the Winter

While the Notch may be closed for the winter, you can still make your way to Cambridge Cannabis Company from Stowe via a different route. The trip is Here are the detailed directions to reach our dispensary from Stowe during the winter:

• Head east on Main St toward Slab Alley for 0.1 miles.
• Continue onto Maple St/Vermont Rte 100 N and follow for 9.6 miles.
• At the traffic circle, take the 3rd exit onto VT-15/Vermont Rte 100 for 1.8 miles.
• At the next traffic circle, continue straight onto VT-15 W for 13.4 miles.
• Continue straight at another traffic circle onto Vermont Rte 108 for 0.4 miles.
• Turn left onto Church St/Vermont Rte 108 and proceed 344 feet.

While the usual route through the Notch is about 17.5 miles and 29 minutes, the route via Vermont Road and 100 North is slightly longer at 35 minutes and just over 25 miles. You can see the full directions here.
